Nicholas Mazzo - Founder/President Nicholas Mazzo has devoted an entire lifetime to the floor covering industry. He began working at his father's side in the family flooring business summers and weekends, from the early age of 10 until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in the spring of 1980. Nick started helping around the family business as a child and eventually specialized in commercial resilient floor covering installations. Nick's first tour of a manufacturing facility was of the Armstrong World Industries resilient plant in Lancaster, PA, at age 13. Before enlisting in the Marines Nick was responsible for the completion of numerous residential and commercial projects including project managing and installing over 75,000 s/f of product at the new Mount Vernon Health Center, Mt. Vernon, NY in 1979 & the West Point Military Academy's new Michie Football Stadium in the summer of 1980, at ages 16 & 17. Upon completion of USMC basic training at Parris Island, SC and the Marine Corps' Combat Engineer School in Camp Lejeune, NC, Nick served the U.S. Marines in various capacities during the height of the "cold war" in: South Korea; Alleutian Islands, Alaska aboard the USS Dubuque/JFK Battle Group; Camp Pendelton, CA; 29 Palms, CA; Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, CA; US Navy's San Clemente Island, CA; and 2 tours in Okinawa, Japan. While enlisted in the Marine Corps Mr. Mazzo graduated from the Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and US Air Force Load Planners School. He received 2 Meritorious Promotions, a United States Navy Commendation, 2 Marine Corps Letters of Appreciation and a Meritorious Mast, Marine of the Month, Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month, Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter, and 3 Unit Commendations. In 1984 Mr. Mazzo was honorably discharged from the marines, returning home to re-join the family flooring business. At age 25, Nick assumed the position of president of the family flooring business. After attending Lees Carpets Sales, Marketing & Manufacturing Clinic in 1987, the Executive Business Institute at the University of Colorado in 1988 and touring various carpet and vinyl mills, Nick increased sales revenue of the retail flooring business by over 300%. In 1996Nick attended the Commercial Floor Covering School at the DuPont Learning Center. Shortly after completing the course Nick founded Premiere Flooring Systems, as a specialized commercial flooring business serving the northeast. Nick was responsible for the daily operations of PFS until later accepting a position with Greensboro, NC based Burlington Industries in 2000, as an Account Executive in their NYC office. Nick developed a love and passion for manufacturing while employed by Burlington Industries. Intrigued with manufacturing, he enjoyed taking customers to the mill for tours of the manufacturing facility and led Burlington's NYC carpet division sales office, as theteam's top sales producer. Nick remained with Burlington until accepting a position as Vice President of Sales & General Manager of E.I. duPont de Nemours & Company's commercial flooring subsidiary in New York City & New Jersey. Nick served as the V.P. of NYC metro area and was responsible for reducing operating losses and increasing net profitability of the location by 75%, in his first 12 months with DuPont. In addition to regular responsibilities, Nick also served on the extended executive leadership team and was one of several company executives selected in the U.S. to provide essential input to Walker Consulting, in the restructuring of the flooring division. In 2003 Nick perceived conditions that would result in the return of entrepreneurial leadership in the commercial flooring contractor segment of the industry. Nick remained with DuPont until the division was sold to Koch Industries, where he left to begin a custom rug manufacturing operation and returned to PFS to continue serving the commercial flooring needs of specifier and facility professionals.Nick remains focused on offering superior commercial flooring solutions to customers, making no compromises. He is deeply committed to maintaining the professionalism and integrity of the commercial flooring industry in serving the needs of it's customers. Nick frequently consults decision makers on distribution channels and how to recognize the greatest return on investment through proper product specification, life-cycle costing, project planning, installation techniques and continuous care. In 2008 Nick was elected to serve on the FCICA board or directors.Nick is a member of the Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association (FCICA), the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA), the Low Moisture Carpet Cleaners Association (LMCCA), and the Marine Corps League.
